On the one hand, massively geeky and nerdy. Mild-mannered, meek, a collector of books, music and cuddly penguin toys, lover of sci-fi and video games, currently doing my doctorate at Jesus College, Oxford (I am from Edinburgh originally). Someone you could 'bring home to mum'.

On the other hand, a musician (primarily a vocalist but I also play guitar, bass and drums) who fits all of the associated stereotypes. An absolute hedonist who adores partying, alcohol and experimentation with drugs and sex. Absolutely wild. Not someone you could 'bring home to mum'.

I am a music obsessive and I do not have favourite bands, I have favourite entire genres. Especially:
Acid Rock, Alternative (various forms of New Wave, Cold Wave, Dark Wave, No Wave, 80s), Blues, Cajun, Carnival, Classical, Country, Folk, Glam, GOTH ROCK, Grunge, Jazz, Metal, Opera, Prog Rock, Punk, Post-Punk, Classic Rock, Scores, Stoner Rock, Surf and World Music....

Books:
English / French / Russian / American Literature of all periods, Beat Generation, Political Science / History or Theory, Philosophy (everything from the pre-Socratics right through to the Existentialists), History of any kind, General Essays and Periodicals / Journals, Medicine, Economics & Political Economy, Etymology, Linguistics, Chemistry, Biology, both Applied and Theoretical Physics, Psychology, Law, Religious Studies, Theology, Sociology, Anthropology, Classical Studies, some Fantasy for escapism. Anything academic, intellectually stimulating and challenging, really.
